The Mahalanobis National Crop Forecast Centre (MNCFC), under the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, is implementing various projects that use satellite images for crop production forecasting and drought assessment. These include the Forecasting Agricultural Output using Space, Agro-meteorology and land-based observations (FASAL) project for crop production forecasting and the National Agricultural Drought Assessment and Monitoring System (NADAMS) for agricultural drought assessment. MNCFC has also signed an MoU with Pixxel Space India to develop agricultural analytics models using hyperspectral satellites for crop identification and mapping, crop health monitoring, and soil organic carbon estimation.
